Holidays

We're on vacation this week. Well Jay is off work, us Mommys don't actually get vacation. :o) We had a nice weekend. We worked in a lot of visits with our friends and family in the London area. Lauren was happy since we got to stay in hotels while traveling around. She likes to swim in the pools.

We saw our good friends who moved to Halifax last year and had a nice visit with them and their kids. We all used to live across the road from each other back when I first met Jay in London, now there's a lot bigger distance but when we get together it's like that was yesterday. They went to school with Jay when he in highschool so they all go back a long time. Lauren loves to play with their kids who are a few years older than her so it was nice for her to get to see them again too.

Our next stop was to visit Jay's Dad. That was a nice time too. We hadn't seen him since January so we were well overdue for that visit. The girls played and had fun. Lainey spent most of our time there asleep on the bed. She had fallen asleep in the van on the way there. Lauren enjoyed having all the attention from her Grandpa. Lainey's highlight was playing in the fountain outside. She loved putting her hands in the running water. Jay got a few cute pictures of that.

We stayed the night in a hotel in London, then after a morning swim it was off to Grand Bend. This is Jay's home town and now home to his Grandpa Hans. Of all Jay's family Grandpa Hans is the closest to the girls now. We see him every couple of months whether it's here or there. We had a nice visit with Hans, and a dinner from the local Pizza Delight. Jay loves their pizza but we don't have one anywhere near us. They are mostly in small towns I think. After a nice visit and eating way too much for the day we headed off to the local hotel/golf resort for the night.

When we arrived in our room we noticed they had made a mistake and instead of the crib we had requested they left us a blow up mattress. The girls had a blast jumping on that. Luckily I had packed the playpen for just incase. After some jumping and bouncing the family settled down for the night. Lainey slept better this time. The first night in London she had to fall asleep in my bed with me before I could put her down. This time she went down in the playpen after a little reading. That was nice.

Monday morning we began our drive home. We stopped for lunch in Exeter (where Jay went to highschool). We picked up some McDonald's and headed to a park on the water. We had a nice little picnic and then chased some butterflies and saw a heron who was very tame. Exeter is home to the white squirrel which we actually saw and took a picture of. That was kind of neat to see.

After our lunch we drove home. The girls slept most of the drive. The girls are finally old enough that they can be entertained with magnadoodles and raisins and when we're desperate with the little DVD player we have in the van. (It stops everytime we hit a bump in the road so we don't use it too often).

The last couple days have been catch up time for laundry and lawn cutting etc. We are heading back on the road for my family tomorrow. My parents just got back from Nova Scotia so we're going to see them and also my Grandma who just had her 84th birthday this week. Lainey's at my knee crying, guess thats it for now. Just wanted to update this a little when I had a chance.
Pictures are of the girls on the beach in Grand Bend where we made sand castles and of the White Squirrel in Exeter.
